Colors and paints - Zetor Original, RAL, tips
All information without guarantee! - Status: October 7, 2024

There it is again - the question of the original color. :D
Most people think - Zetor are red. But that's not quite true, because the first Zetors came onto the market in army colors, due to the post-war period. There were also dark green Zetors for the Basilian market, orange ones for the Japanese market or the blue UR2 Zetors for the East and the red ones for western export. There were also Zetors in John Deere colors (green/yellow) that Zetor produced for JD (series 2000, 1993).

To still offer a little help with the color choice, here are the most common color combinations.

Sources e.g.:
- Ersatzteilhandel Weisse Zetor paint colors!
(all Sparex(Agricolor and paints in cans or sprays in very good quality)
or e.g. billigspray.at - all Zetor colors in all gloss levels as acrylic paint

Tips:
1) 1K synthetic resin paint + 10-15% "hardener thinner" ensures faster drying and a more durable/harder paint. It is best to use the same manufacturer of paint and thinner/hardener thinner or test for compatibility beforehand!

2 ) Synthetic resin paint on acrylic paint and vice versa - is that possible? Yes, if the drying times are adhered to or if you are painting over old paint. With new paint, at least 3 days at around 20°C should have passed, or longer at lower temperatures, before you can paint over it.
If necessary, there are 2K epoxy separating layer primers to reduce the risk and avoid having to completely remove the old paint.

These models were painted in a variety of colors.
Depending on what was available at the time, such as surplus army stocks of green and khaki, they were then painted.
Very often the tractors were also painted in the colors of the importer or dealer after export, such as orange for Japan.

In the second half of the 1950s, brilliant blue (the original blue of the corporate Zbrojovka weapons factory) became the standard color for Eastern Europe and traffic red for export to the West.

Added by @Henrik Juhler (Zetor collector, Denmark)
In Denmark: the first Zetor's 25 (until 1951) had army color and dark red wheels. (Front wheels: army color on the inside and red on the outside. Rear wheels were red).
1951 to 1961, Zetor 25: the red color with yellow wheels (front wheels: red inside and yellow outside) rear wheels were yellow.
In Sweden: the blue color with yellow wheels
In Finland: the green color with yellow wheels.

- Note from @Henrik Juhler (Zetor collector, Denmark):
The frame color is "olive yellow" Ral 1020 (unfortunately varies depending on the paint manufacturer) and fits a good 95% of the time. You won't get it 100% right because the original paint had some silver mixed in, which you can't get like that."

Olive yellow RAL 1020 + Sparex Orange S.82103 (better or a little darker: Sparex Red-Orange S.84266
