Zetor Forterra 11741

I am planning to buy a Forterra 11741, whith the 6 cylinder Same engine. But it seems to be hard to do a good trade, it's not many of these for sale. Why? Was it something very bad with those tractor's or what?

I am thinking of maybe buying a 12441 instead. But then I would miss the long wheelbase, and of corse, the 6 cylinder engine sound.

The howling sound of the Same engine ? ...you can have it if you like it...

Next to that, the models with Same engines are a hard trade, at least here in Holland. I saw a fairly young 11641 traded at a Zetor dealer, it stood there for 2 years, then i saw it at another dealer. The resale price is much lower than a 11441 or 12441 and there is absolutely no export market for these, once they have 10.000hrs...

Well, here in Norway I have not seen any 11741 for sale yet.. The last 2 years, I have seen 2 or 3 Forterra 11641 for sale. But I don't like the design on them, because they look so old, almost like my 8540.

Maybe I should wait a few year's, and then maybe I can afford a brand new HSX....

looking for a used Zetor , i'd leave the TIER 2 engine alone: it has the same problem as the John Deere TIER 2 engines, they retarded the injection timing in order to lower the combustion temperatures and ultimately let the nitrous oxides emission comply to the standard, this method led to poor low end torque and poor fuel consumption. The EGR as used on the TIER 3A engines is a much better solution, better low end torque and good fuel consumption... But the 16V engine is the ultimate solution

A local farmer had a Same Silver 90 and it sounded terrible... like a vacuum cleaner, you knew he was coming from miles distance... The 6 cylinder wasnt much different... No comparison to the deep growl of a Crystal 6 pot...

I have seen that the 11441 have as much torque as the 11741, and the 12441 have even more. Impressive, realizing that the biggest engine is a 6 liter, 6 cylinder, and those strongest one's are only 4 cyl, and 4,2 liter...

But Zetor has always (at least for some 35-40 years) been THE headmaster in making engines that really like to work, and is capable for it. My 6911 outclassed a JD 2040, we where driving with similar trailer's, and uphill the 6911 was strongest.

Hah, a farmer around here, used to drive Fendt for ages. Untill he couldnt buy anything other than Vario: he did NOT want complicated Vario so he bought a 11441. the 11441 turned out to be a lazy pig at low rpm, so now his 2nd Zetor , a Proxima 85 is pulling his 20 ton Veenhuis self loading silage combitrailer... When his cousins borrowed his trailer, their Fendt 411 really struggled with this trailer, so from then on they borrowed the combiwagon AND the beastly strong Proxima...

Its not just that engine... Its also the efficiency of a straightforward transmission with little power loss between engine and wheels (or PTO) that makes them outwork other tractors.

Oh, and the manufacturer advises 150-200hp for one of these trailers...

Hey wait... I am mixing things up... My neighbours Same had an air cooled engine, with a high pitched whine of the cooling fan...

The engine in a Same Silver 110 is NOT the same as in the 11641, Same had air cooled, and Hurlimann and Lamborghini had a water cooled version of the same engine. This version was also used in the 11641 and 11741 and didnt have this annoying air cooling fan howl...

Of the Zetor UR1 engine there are also air cooled versions, made by Slavia...

Well, Renze, when I read what you wrote abaut the sound like a vacuum-cleaner, I realized it's what my proxima sounds like.

I looked on a video of a 11741 on youtube, and ther was that vacuum-cleaner sound, just as you wrote.

But, why not wait a few years, then I can afford a brand new Forterra 135...

I dare not think about how those air-cooled engine's sounds like..
