On my back tires I can read - 12,4/11-36.
I guess that the "36" is the diameter of the rim in inches (?)
and the "11" is the width of the rim in inches (?) but what does
the "12,4" stand for ? Are such tires unusual, I can't seem to find any on the net.

Hi Joe,

12.4 may refer to the tyre footprint (width) in inches on an 11 inch rim. Does this seem reasonable?

Hi Joe, I think Tom is right.

I've just been out to measure Mr Zed's front hooves ;)
They are marked 11,2/10-24

It seems that the 11,2 is the width of the tyre at the widest point, 10 seems to refer to the inside width of the rim, and 24 is the diameter of the rim.

Measurements in inches of course - hands up, everyone else who finds metric confusing :sneaky: For real world applications that is; I'll admit metric is handy in the lab.

Sorry to hijack your thread Joe :D

By the way Joe, try

http://www.google.fi/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&safe=off&q=12.4%2F11-36+tyre&btnG=Search

You'll get some hits...

12.4 is width of tire
11 is height of tire
36 is diameter of rim.

So, diameter of wheel will be:
2x11+36=58" (1470mm)

This wheel corresponds to 16.9/14-30, for example.
2x14+30=58" (1470mm)
