Check to make sure the 4wd engagement is indeed complete - lever position(4wd engage) is where it should be - if it is not then this will be the source of the misalignment and grinding.
If this is not the issue then there are some more serious issues inside the transmission or clutch housing.
You need to provide more information.
Does the 4wd level engage, then when you put it in gear and release the clutch - it grinds?
Does it grind when you try to engage the 4wd lever?
Are you stopped and in neutral, then you try to engage the 4wd lever and it grinds?

How do you know it is working? Voltage or amp check on the line?
The reason I ask is that my charge light stays on after startup at low RPM's - then after a few minutes and RPM>800 it flickers and goes out.
Check the mechanical linking mechanism in the back of the tractor under the black plastic box. This is where the hydraulic line ends and the piston engages the brake mechanism.
I have found the same problem as the pivot points in the mechanical linkage to the actual brake require lubrication...
