hi all,

at present i'm restoring my 3045 and i've just discovered that the drop box for the 4wd has been perviously damaged. i was wondering how hard these are to obtain or whats the availability second hand or is it worth replacing given that the 4wd seems to be working ok?

also on these tractors is there a resevoir for the brake fluid if so where is it positioned on the tractor?

any help appreciated

sean

drop box, prop shaft and front axle for these tractors are pretty rare. They all tended to get damaged since they are quite close to the ground. I have been told that it was possible to shatter the drop box casting if enough hay became wrapped around the shaft.

My drop box was also previously damaged and brazed (not to a brilliant standard but stroung enough) however it still leaked so i filled the remaining cracks with jb weld epoxy stuff, but i still have leaks, just going to live with it! If the 4wd is working and you just have leaks maybe this is your best option, as i'd say the likleyhood of finding a secondhand one is slim and if you did it would be pricey!

With regards to the brake res, it should be on the right hand side of the seat as you sit on the tractor, with a single feed to the brake master cylinder. Originally these were metal and rotted easily but modern replacements are plastic.

Hope this helps, Good luck.

thanks chrus,

the drop box has been welded up since and seems not to be leaking so i think i'll leave as is, but i'll have to start searching the scrappers for the brake fluid resevoir as the current one consists of a 1/2 inch hose running up the inside of the mudguard!!

also any help regarding the the rear lights - casings and lenses would be appreciated

sean

the plastic resivoirs are readily available and have the advantage of not rusting!

With regards to rear lights, again they are pretty rare, i did see on the for sale forums on here some were available from finland?!? if not i did also hear that Barlows in the UK were having some reproductions made.

Can i ask where you are located?

i'm based in co. antrim n.ireland, there are a few breakers round here so i'm foraging around these!!

I have had the drop box on my 3545 shatter on me twice for no apparent reason. Once going up a hill and once on the flat whilst topping.
For what reason I've no idea. I'm pretty sure they hadn't become loose or anything.
Is this a common fault, has anyone else had this?
I'm reluctant to use the 4wd unless I really have to now.
I imagine coming down a steep hill with a heavy trailer on and it happens again, then I'm down to 2wd staring disaster in the face:eek::eek:
Any info welcome!

most common reason for the drop box to break off the tractor was because people didnt know that the 4wd was not to be used in low range, it only works in high range. i have seen someone who had made a new dropbox on a 3545 from steel plate, they used the gears etc from the original.

I think you mean this video:

it shows a 3D drawing at 1:00

The guy doesnt answer to my question yet.

Hi,

I noticed that the dropbox on my 5245 has been welded/ repaired but the weld has been ground back smooth & looks good/ doesn't leak so Im just going to leave it see how it goes.
I'm not going to spare the 4WD.
Cheers,
Ian

While looking through the parts manual , ordering parts for my 3011, i found that the 3045 front differential, has the satelite gears of the 2011 !!

Contrary to what i allways believed, this axle used by Zetor is not the GMC army dump one that Roadless, Selene and Manuel used under their Ford, MF and IHC conversions... It looks resembles remarkably though..
