hi, thanks to Dave P firstly for advice with the injector pump.
I just started her for the first time, she fired first time once blead! amazing really. but the main issues i have now are:

1; she hunts slightly, i.e. revs fluctuate up and down a bit. is this timing on the slotted injector pump mounting holes or something else?

2; oil is leaking (bubbling up) round a cylinder head nut. it wouldnt matter but it is one of the ones not under the rocker cover.

3; there is a fuel leak coming out of one of the injector tubes. i.e. where the injector slots into the head, its bubbling out round there>? i was thinking this could be linked to no.1?

Thanks in advance for any help , i am simply amazed she fired first time! ive had her for 2 years and after all the work its very satisfying.

Hope to hear from someone in the know soon!

Regards
Chris

the rev fluttering is ended by tensioning a spring inside the fuel pump.. kinda hard to explain.

the oil leak sounds like you have a leaking head gasket. If the tractor is used for work, i wouldnt like that.

hi, thanks for the reply.

the spring in question, is it the one you can see when you take off the small square cover on top of the pump?

and i cant believe its a headgasket leak as it was a new one and the head studs arnt bottomless threaded into the block are they? could this be solved by PTFE tape round the stud where it threads into the block? when i say bubbling there was only slight pressure there, not like cylinder pressure

thanks again, any more advice gratefully recieved.

Hi Chris

I'm inclined to agree with Renz regarding the head gasket.
As for the fuel leak, there really shouldn't be any diesel down the tube. Could be a leak on the injector itself. Take it out and see if it is sealing okay in the bottom of the tube. Are you sure it's not water ? Try swapping it over with another cylinder and see what happens. If it's the sleeve they are replaceable.

Very helpful both of you, thanks.
I am a bit confused as to why the head gasket would be leaking as its new but oh well, i am going to remove all the heads again and replace the injector sleeves.

Should the injectors be a tight fit in the sleeves? i.e. when they are pushed right down there is no lateral movement? also is there a seal at the bottom of the sleeves and how does one go about getting them out of the heads?

Many thanks again.

Chris

I think you only need to replace the gasket on the cylinder thats leaking. Did you check the head for level when you had it off ? Use a steel rule across the head in all directions, If its not perfectly flat, for example if there a few pits or eroded places, then get it milled before replacing.
The injectors should not be tight in the tubes; they should be sitting on a copper washer which ought to be replaced each time an injector is removed. These can stick to the head in the bottom of the hole, so make up a tool like a small screwdriver with the end bent 90* to hook it out.
Make sure the injector body is screwed up tight, the only place diesel can escape is around the threaded part, again, some have thin copper washers which can need replacing.
Hope this helps, Dave

thanks again Dave,

when you say copper washer at the bottom of the tube, how close to the bottom is it actually? like 10mm up from the head face? should i go about changing these rather than the whole tube or do they go hand in hand?

Also do you have any advice on the fluctuating rev problem?

thanks again

Chris

If a head is not flat, how much material can be safely milled off before concern about piston to head/valves becomes an issue?
