I have a model 3340 (1995?) that the High/Low transmission selector has broken. In High range now. Is this something I can fix myself ? Any advise would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi there, just remove the centre piece of floor, the handle for hi/low will just slip off, you will see a broken piece of small pin that locks the handle in place. Remove these, refit the handle and fit a new 5mm (from memory) roll pin. Reassemble, and shift the hi/lo a bit more gently!! (I fell in the same trap, was shifting it with my foot!!)

Cheers,
Aaron.

???
Thanks! But the handle itself is still attached, the rod going into the transmission has twisted off. You can pull the handle and about 3" of rod out of the transmission. Looks like a major job, better let a pro do it.:(

its not that big a job but you will have to take off the gearbox lid. and DONT DRIVE IT the broken piece can end up in the 4wd drop box and crush it ;S ive done the same job on a 7745 once

:(
I have been driving it for a while. Everything seems good. But I am kind of afraid to pull the top off the gear box.
I have been using high range, but I some times have to ride/slip the clutch to go slow enough. Is this going to damage the clutch ? Would a new clutch be a major job ? HELP !!

Hi,

Forterra has given you good advice - DON'T DRIVE IT. The broken piece can and frequently does, drop down into the drop box. You'll find it easily then because the 4WD gear will push it through the side of the drop box !! and it will lay in a large puddle of oil under the tractor. The top comes off the gearbox quite easily. You just have to cut off the 2 small lumps of casting with the hole through at the front end.
To do a clutch the tractor has to be split at the bell housing.

I have 3340, 2000 model- the reduction lever broke (hi/lo range) it broke off at the handle. I've removed the gear box cover, drained all the oil and cannot find the piece anywhere. Any idea where it could fall to and how to get at it. If I can find it, I can probably retrieve it. Would it be in the box under the gear case where the front wheel axle drive comes off? I've looked and felt in there to no avail, but maybe is stuck on top of the shaft?? No mechanics around so have to do this myself- any help would be great.
