Hello, on my 3340 SE I have no brakes. It seems to have gotten gradually worse over the last season. Anyway, I thought I would start with the master and slave cylinders and they do not look like they are leaking. Does that mean it is the brake pads? I cannot see any leaking around the differential housing. I really don't understand how/where to bleed the brakes lines or adjust? the brakes? Somewhere near the brake pedals? I have the shop/repair manual but I am not any sort of mechanic. Last season I replaced the master cylinder on the clutch and successfully bled the line. I have replacement brake master and slave cylinders. Thanks everyone.

Hi

When you say they gradually got worse do you mean the pedals were going right to the floor ? If you still have good pedal pressure and poor stopping power, you have oil on them. Assuming you have lost the pedals and you have fluid in the reservoir, it is almost certainly the master cylinders. When you change them make sure you adjust their pushrods so they are returning fully giving you a tiny bit of play on the pedals. Bleeding is done on the bleed screw on each wheel cylinder. Brake adjust ment is done on the 19mm nut facing rearwards below the wheel cylinder. Jack up and tighten until you lock the wheel then back off one and three quarter turns. The book probably tells you less but if you do much road work they can come on if they overheat.

Thanks, it was hard to tell if there is pressure because the springs give so much tension. I figure once I change the master cylinders and they still don't work I have oil on them...will adjusting the brakes make a big impact? Is simply adjusting them that effective? Could that fix them?

Hi,

If you have a fluid problem the pedals will go to the floor very easily. Operate the pedals and watch to see if the little wheel cylinders are moving. They could be siezed. If they're moving and you have no braking then it's oil on the discs.
