3 months ago I purchaced a model used 4911. Last week, while moving earth, I attempted to put the tractor in reverse, and although the shifter moved from 1st, the tractor stayed in 1st gear. Now 2nd to 5th gears bog the tractor out and 1st, reverse and neutral are all first gear.
Any ideas on what the problem could be?

unbolt the 4 M8 bolts of the lever housing on top of the gearbox, under the instrument panel. Then you can slide the most right shiftrod bracket manually back into neutral, and drop the lever and its housing back on top. Make sure the slide block of the shift lever itself, drops in the neutral slot.

Then in future ensure that you make nice square movements with the lever when changing gear - no diagonal shortcuts ;)

These days I'm paranoid about ensuring that one gear has been released properly before engaging the next one - I got mine stuck in both second and reverse once - have a guess if it spoilt my day ;)

If you have the courage to do this, you can weld in the wear grooves of the little slide block on the gear lever. I did that on our 6718 with 10.250 hrs, just as a preventative measurement, and it never occurred. You do need to know what you're doing because when you weld too much, it is a place hard to reach with a grinder so you'll need to file it manually ;)

Newer models with the mid mount gearlever have a simple factory modification kit available.

I took the bolts off and moved everything to neutral. I put it back together and it stuck again. Upon taking it apart again i tried to slide all the gears and the 4th/5th gear got stuck in 5th. I can't move it back manually. Is there a release somewhere or is it something more serious, like a bad gear box

Thanks for any help
Matt

There is a row of tall bolts infront of the hi/low and pto levers,if you unndo the 2nd fromthe right side you migt get things lose.

2nd from the left ! Because the lever pivots in the lever housing, it is mirrored. when top of the lever slides to the left, bottom end swings to the right.
