Wondering exactly what function the charge light serves. I've read here that wiring the system without the light will cook the alternator. Having a bad connection, I did just that and installed a voltmeter to monitor charging. Output shows 16V, which I think is too high. Will wiring a new socket and bulb back in reduce output? Can I use an LED?

Thanks!

Hi

I wouldn't worry too much about the voltage as it's the Amps which you need. It ought to have a ordinary bulb in not a led. If you haven't got an ammeter put the voltmeter across the battery and see if the voltage increases when you run the engine to check if it is charging.
