What are the cylinders(look like a shock absorber) one on each side inside the rear tires mounted near the frame..they are mounted parallel to the ground and look like linkage rods connected to each end..I assume this is part of the brake system. Thanks

They are srings to balance out the park brake actuation. If one side is adjusted up more, these compensate for it. They fill up with crud and don't work after a while.

Thanks - had seen that they were not actually cylinders. I don't dare touch the emergency brake it locks the right wheel. Same one I had heat up on me the other day when I bought it and was driving it home.

Yes, if the park brake band is adjusted too tight, they will heat the drum up and expand it, then it is just a chain reaction to the point the tractor will almost stop.
The park brakes work excellent, I only wish the service brake was a 10th as efficient as them! Oh, and never use the park brake unless you are stationary!!
