Zetor 5211 with Westendorf loader and BushHog 236 shredder. Due to a broken back, my equipment has been in my tractor shed for too long; however new parts are arriving and physical update help has started.
Hi guys....was doing some work with my front loader and the tractor became hung in reverse. Clutch has pressure and I can get the gear shift to go into 2nd and 3rd position...but feels like it is then in 2 gears. Was able to back it all the way back to the barn....and then kept trying to get it out of reverse...but no luck. How bad does it sound :( Thanks, Don

its an easy fix :) just remove the floor plate between your legs. then where the main gearstick is bolted to the gearbox housing with 4 bolts... i tihink its four. anyway just remove the main gear stick assembly from gearbox cover and line up the shift forks. there are slots in the shift forks and they should all be in line. then just reassemble and you are off driving again :)

as above the four bolts that hold the gear lever turret to top of gearbox... on our 6711 theres a cable goes round a little guide pulley on one corner of it....

use a big screwdriver to shift the selectors into line in the middle of their travel... all in neutral

i went down the route of thinking the end of the gear lever had worn so it was jumping out of the first/reverse selector....(fairly common on massey 35s) even swopped the lever and turret for anoher one.....
then one day on a slope i heard a graunching of a gear trying to engage itself, cleaned the inch layer of oily crud of the top of the gearbox...and found
in front of the gear lever theres a row of bots sticking out the top of the gearbox cover... they are the load on the springs that hold the detent balls in the slots in the selectors... the first reverse one on ours had come loose....screwed it down in and had no problems since

but at least i got a cheap tractor after it locked up on the previous owner in in the middle of the road... with what he thought was a terminally buggered gearbox;)

Thanks for the quick response and the sigh of relief after reading your posts. I've never opened one of these trans...and you make it seem very simple....if there is anything special I need to watch for in lifting off the top....or going back into place, please advise.
Again....I really appreciate the help you guys....and all of the others that have come to my rescue the past. Happy Trails, Don

Hi Mike....easier is always best for me. Just to make sure I understand, I loosen the bolt you're talking about...without removing the gear selector housing...and then try to shift out of reverse..and retighten the bolt? Or....remove the housing....and loosen the bolt to make shifting out of reverse easier...and then tighten the bolt back. Sorry....to be so dense. I appreciate your trying to help me along. Thanks, Don

Hi,

Leave the gear lever bolted on and remove the gear lock from the top cover. You'll see the selector rod at the bottom of the hole. Just flick it forward until the recess in the rod lines up with the hole. It's as easy as that !! If the problem keeps occuring there is a modification kit available to cure it.

Mike

Mike (ixer0), ricc, Forterra....thanks guys for your help . After your last post, Mike, I got it up and running with no problems. Took longer to remove the floor panel and clean off the gunk on top of the gear box than it did to "get-er-done" :) Happy days are here again, Don

keep the tools handy... it may happen again....:) i usedto keep the spanner and large screwdriver in the cab ... till i found the loose detent and finally cured it.

ricc.....you were right, it did happen again this afternoon. Mike, you mentioned a modification kit....how involved is installing this kit? Thanks a lot guys...Don
