Just how much does the power assist steering help ? Drove the 5211 today bushhogging and it seemed almost as hard to steer as my old 47 model Ford 2N with manual steering. Fluid is at the right level. Any thoughts or are they just like that???

Check that the pump is actually pumping fluid. On my 6745 a splined bush behind the pump had stripped. Easy to fix.

OK Thanks--now to find the pump--just got it-know nothing about it----How much stuff has to be taken apart to see if the spline is stripped?

I'm not familiar with the 5211 but on the earlier models the pump was at the right hand front of the motor (facing the front). No need to strip anything if the pump is actually pumping. On the earlier models if you took the filling plug out of the top of the power steering tank you could see the fluid being pumped. If you loosen one of the hydraulic lines you'll soon see. Others more familiar with the model can give better advice. A replacement pump for my 6745 was available but I was told they rarely fail. Just don't dismantle the pump itself.

Thanks Corundal-will do some looking-had not thought about looking in the tank with it running-in fact did notknow if that was ok to do. Will look there first to see what is moving.
