As expected, no luck getting the shaft out..took out 4 bolts-removed safety shield.cleaned area good-attached a pto shaft--beat banged pulled, pryed and beat and banged at the same time--did not budge...Enough is enough--FOR SALE: ZETOR 5211 93 model-low hours...some little something wrong with pto---pto spins all the time or stop pto and you have no lift..I really don't believe it is much wrong but nobody will touch it in this part of the world--you say Zetor and they give you a dumb look and quickly say NO they will not touch it..

With what lever do you turn the PTO on and off ? Not with the 540/1000 selector i hope ?

No-the 540/1000 is set on 540 and I do not touch it....It acts almost like the lever needs to go one click more forward to push the inside rail a little more toward the rear---but that can't happen since there is just one slot for the lever finger to go in on the inside..Thought about trying to reach through the detent hole to see if I can move the rail BUT I won't be able to because of the lever having it locked.

check two things:

1. is the small lever on the left that shifts oil pump, PTO+oil pump, neutral, and ground drive thoroughly attached to the shaft that goes inside the gearbox lid ? many times you cant shift the whole end because the pin is worn and loose.

2. Take off the 3pt lift cover (heavy, use a lifting means so you can lift it easily without damaging the control cranks and levers underneath) and check if the sliding rod that moves the PTO shifting collar, is thoroughly attached to the shift fork.

My bet is on the shift fork. it may also be bent (though ive never heard of it bending)

Renze the lever does have wiggle from side to side--I assume that the shaft that the lever goes on is splined and the small screw just fits a groove to keep it from sliding off..Do you know of anyone, anywhere or an on line source to see a drawing to determine how this is made??(1993 5211) I thought I had thoroughly checked it when I had it off but maybe the lever is spinning on the shaft somehow/someway..

There is no splines on it, its a round shaft with the lever attached to it with a C spring pin. We replaced it with a big old wood nail, hammered tight into it and then sawed off. It shouldnt be able to wiggle at all.

This had us fooled when we just got our 5245, the pin was broken but the rough end took the selector shaft through some positions, but as soon as more resistance came, it began to slide.

As with most mechanical issues, rule out the obvious first :) I know a farmer with a 11441 which had overheating issues: They removed the thermostat, short circuited the viscous switch so the electric fan runs all the time, but still overheating. Then another mechanic looked at it and said that with no thermostat the tractor would continuously run via the bypass, shorting the radiator so that was only worsening the problem, put everything back to original and started to rule out the obvious: It turned out that there was a clog up of debris between two radiators, intercooler and aircon, which you couldnt power wash away. Now they know the solution they unscrew the aircon evaporator every season, and it all runs fine.

I understand that the C spring clip keeps the lever on the rod--so the one little screw is what keeps the lever from spinning on the shaft?? or are you saying there is a roll pin driven through the lever and shaft?
I now have the cover/sheetmetal back off--took out the detent and looked in---in the forward position the last slot in the bar(beneath the cover) is visible and the end of the bar is visible--so I know it is shifting to the last notch when the lever is moved all the way forward....dark caught me, so will run it through the different lever positions tomorrow evening---maybe, just maybe the sheetmetal cover is not allowing it to shift quite as far forward as it needs to go.....keep your fingers crossed..If it works without the cover I would leave it off or modify it a bit to let the lever travel forward a little more..

Yes, rollpin was the word i was looking for: Its held on the shaft only by a rollpin. If it wears down it will get dead stroke, so it will hit the floor before putting the gears in the actual most forward position.

My 5718 doesnt have a full floor yet, but the rollpin DOES have enough play to cause a problem on the newer models. at one end the C just starts compressing over time untill the C becomes an O, causing the wobble. Either put something inside the new rollpin to keep it open, or just hammer a solid wood nail tight into it.

Renze, Thanks. Examining the lever pin will be the first thing I do when I get off work today. I sure hope this is the problem and that the pin can be driven out and replaced with the gearbox cover still mounted on the gearbox.

Off course i meant, if you tap something into the C rollpin to keep it open, put in a new one first because the old one will be worn thin. Or just put in a nail which fits tight.

Thanks Renze--The pin in my pto lever looks like it has a head like a rivet--does not appear to be broken but I am thinking it must be slightly bent--------Here is the story--I think it is fixed...I removed the floor panel that goes over the tranny and fits over all the levers---with it off, the pto worked fine ---had to loosen all the floor panel bolts and the center cover bolts so that the center cover could move forward as much as possible...Now the pto lever has that last little bit of travel forward that makes it work like it should---man o man what a pain--amazing how such a tiny detail can drive u crazy and make things not work...Thanks so much for your help and patience...Brakes may be next------someday----not soon...Thanks again..Gary

Financially a much more attractive option than trading ;)

Still grinds when trying to change pto lever position. Guess I'll just crank it with the pto already engaged and be satisfied that it works at all.
