6245 Unable to change pto speed

I recently purchased a 6245 with 200hrs on it. Unfortuneately it was kept outside.

I am trying to get a Igland 3501 logging winch going on it but am unable to get the pto speed to change from 1000 to 540 which is what the winch requires. The pto speed selector wont turn all the way to the left. It appears to turn to the neutral position or the 1000 position. It is likely that the tractor pto was never used at the 540 speed.

From what I have been reading wd40 might get the selector unstuck so I am going to try that. When I go to move the pto selector, what position should my other levers be in? To the left of the seat is the hand brake and 5 min pto brake. By my left foot is the small lever that engages hydrolics/pto. The pto speed selector is between my feet. By my right foot is small Lever that selects the range speed.

Any suggestions on how to get the pto speed selector to move to 540 would be greatly appreciated.

If I keep the engine at low rpm can the winch still operate fine with the tractor at 1000 pto speed?

Thank you

Yes it can but you might stall the engine.

The lever is a pto clutch, not a pto brake. Pull it up to change pto settings, but dont leave it up for more than 5 minutes because the clutch will run hot.

Just keep spraying under the lever and keep twisting it from left to right untill it's free

With the tractor engine off and the pto clutch lever pulled up and the plastic cover on the pto speed switch pulled off, I sprayed wd 40 into the hole in the middle of the pto speed selector and also sprayed all around it. I then rotated the pto speed selector to the right and as far left as I could. I also tried using a pipe wrench to get more pull on the pto speed switch to get it to turn more to the left. I was still unable to get the tractor into the 540 pto speed. Is there something else I should be doing?

Thank you for you help .

Try to turn in other rotation . You need to turn one half turn . and this is a Neutral position at center . Relase slight the PTO clutch for easy rotation .

Hi,

If you've got a plastic cover over the speed selector it has got the interchangeable shaft option. Have you got a 1000 speed 21 splined shaft pushed in where you are spraying the wd40?

There is a plastic cap that goes on the top of my pto speed selector. This image shows the selector with the cap off. When the selector is turned to the right the pto works fine and is in 1000rpm. When I turn it all the way to the left as far as I can get it, the pto will not work. All the way to the left should be 540, right? The selector does not turn the whole 180 degrees from right to left. It does turn about 3/4 of the way. I am wondering if I need to take the bolts around the selector off to get a better shot with the wd 40? Its hard to get to all the bolts because of a metal wire running over the top of a bolt. Should I just bend that wire so i can get to all the bolts?

Thanks

you need to take the stump thats on the picture and interchange it with the one thats in your rear end. then you will have 540 pto. this is not something thats normally delivered in the Nordic countrys an especially in norway. ive only seen it in pictures from longer south in europe.

Is this a simple job? Would you be able to give me more detail? Have you seen any videos on this? The pto that spins in the back of the tractor comes off and goes where the pto speed selector is...i am not sure I am understanding haha.

Thank you

the picture you added shows the piece you need to change with the piece you have spinning in the backend. the one in the back end should have a 21 spline pattern for 1000rpm tools. its a bolt in the center of it. unscrew that and pull it out, then pull the one under your pto speed selector up from its place and put that in the back end and put the center bolt back in. then put the oter piece back in where you took out the oter one. then put the selector cover on. and now you should be able to engage 540 pto speed.

Guys

I follow you now. I had been wondering why the pto selector switch looked just like a 540 pto end piece. Ill give this a try and let you know.

Thanks and
God Bless

Tom

I now have my tractor down to the 540 pto speed. I had to interchange those end pieces mentioned. The shaft in the cab turned right into position once I swapped the pieces. I did use pipe wrench to help . Really appreciate the help!
