The clutch on my 7245 is not working properly and I have no idea what the problem could be. The clutch only engages and disengages at the very top of the clutch pedal. When I first start plowing snow the clutch does not slip but after awhile it will slip and get progressively worse with use. Something odd to me is that when the slipping starts and the engine is still at the same RPM's, after a few seconds the clutch will engage and will be OK until I come to a stop, reverse direction and then the problem repeats itself. The slipping always is when you first start going forward or backing up or it sometimes will slip when pushing a heavy load of snow. I have bled the slave cylinder and I think the master and slave are OK and I have used PB Blaster and oil down the tube. Does anyone have an idea what my problem could be?
Thanks Renze. I was afraid of that. I was hoping it was an adjustment issue because of the clutch only responding when the pedel is depressed at the very top and the fact that it slips a bit then it engages. Do you have any advice on adjustment so I may get by a little longer?
Between the hatch on the left side of the clutch housing you will find six pressure fingers. three belong to the PTO clutch, three to the travel clutch. I cant tell you whihc is what, so pull the PTO clutch and then adjust the other 3 bolts.
You can turn the right bolt in front of the hatch by prying on the starter ring gear.
You nailed it Renze. Yesterday I pulled the cover and was looking to see if I could see anything obviously wrong. I checked the measurements of the forks and found the traveling clutch forks were way out of spec according to the repair manual. Long story short, I adjusted the three forks to factory spec, bled the master cylinder and pumped a couple shots of grease into the two grease zerks and Bingo, my tractor performs better than it ever has.
