Hey all,
I have a 7745 that won't start. I took off the starter and found a fork-like lever (that links the small solenoid to the larger "cylinder" in the starter ) in two pieces (broke at the pivot). I replaced it and the solenoid (broke the solenoid's casing during the initial dissassembly), but I still only get a humming noise, like the starter is turning but failing to engage the large flywheel (is that what it's called?) inside the tractor.
I've looked at pictures of starters on the net, and it's unclear to me whether or not the teeth on the starter's sprocket are tappered or not. The teeth on my sprocket don't look worn, but they don't come to the end of the sprocket (maybe 2-3 mm "missing"). And my teeth are flat (side tooth surface faces directly along the starter's shaft).
If the sprocket's the problem, how do I remove it? I couldn't figure it out when I had dissassembled it the first time.
Other detail: there is a ring on the end of the starter's shaft, but it's loose. Is it supposed to be locked in place somehow on the casing? How?
Is there a place where I can find a schematic of the starter? Or if someone has it, could you send it to jolamoureux@hotmail.com?
Thanks for any help ,
Jonathan
