Hi,

I have allways had problems with steering on my 7745. It has been much more difficult to turn to the left (looking forward from drivers position) than to turn right. Have had the main ram overhauled but no dicernable improvement. A few days ago I removed the steering damper (ram) and find the tractor much easire to steer in both directions than before. The only problem is when on the road the steering can be very wobbly without the damper doing it's job.
I find that I can easily close (shorten) the damper by hand when it is off the tractor, but it is impossible to open by hand which in a way explaind the difficulty in steering to the left which requires the ram to open. I am assuming there is an internal directional valve which is dodgy.I have 3 questions.

1. Should I be able to manually open and close this ram when it is off the tractor?
2. Is the fact that it is difficult to move in one direction likely to be the reason why it is hard at times to steer the tractor to the left.?
3. Can this unit be repaired easily or do I need a new unit?

Thanks

Rujib

Check the track rod ends.

How is the centre axle kingpin for wear?
