SFG - you get a lot of tractor for your money in an 8011. Construction quality is high and they are bomb proof except for the hoses and brake cylinders. The quality of the rubber in the original hoses was very poor as was the lining of the brake cylinders. Change these and you will have trouble free tractoring.
Other than these, an 8011 is a great tractor to work on with some innovative design features for a tractor launced in 1969 e.g. centrifugal oil filter (make sure marks are aligned during re-assembly), built in spool valve hydraulics, a flat floor cab big enough to have a hooley in, 16F/8R tranmission with torque lever, hydraulic PTO, direct injection for easy starting....
Parts are readily available and don't cost the earth either.
You can't go wrong if the tractor has had a half decent life.

Tom, thanks very much for your info, I have been told that 8011 can have troubles with the diff housing, have you heard anything along these lines?. Am also interested to know what the bottom end is like in these motors as I have seen a cheap unit but seems to have a nasty knock,possibly bottom end. Any info you may have on this would be greatly appriciated. Thanks again

8011 Crystal is quite good tractor. Motor is without problems.There are some problems with bearings, mainly in gearbox, if some is bad so you can hear loud noise. Well, there is two-step powershift, it is good to check gear oil pump (replacing is not easy). Try shifting all gears, it is not like with synchro clutch.
If you want to use that tractor for many hours a year, look at some with newer cab with lower noise level.

SFG - I don't know where you live but /$ for / you will be hard pressed to get as much tractor from other makes for what you will pay for your 8011.
Re the diff housing - do you mean the back axle? I have never had a problem with mine but I don't know what you are refering to.
Engine is simple to work on in the 8011. Liners are removable. Shell bearings are fitted in crankshat. Only negative is that the crank has balance weights screwed in fitted - these need to be physically mutilated to stop them working loose. See my earlier post on this.
Bottom line is that you won't spend too much /$ to do work on the engine.
