Hi, apologies to all if this is very basic but I'm a bit new to tractors.

I have an 8011 which doesn't get used too often and as such I used to find the batteries went flat fairly regularly. Have now fitted an aftermarket isolator and cleaned and tightened all the starter motor connections but dont think the batteries are up to scratch any more. Considering buying two new ones ( been recommended 663's) to replace the batteries in the cab which are fitted in line, giving 24v.
1. Is this correct for the tractor?
2. Is there anything else needs checking before I elect for open wallet surgery

Any ideas gratefully received, as I'm in Normandy and there isn't a huge pool of knowledge down here

Hi Chris

The batteries should be connected in parallel on an 8011 as it should be a 12 volt system, unless someone has done a convertion to 24 volts. Your tractor should not have the 12/24v change over box under the seat.
Make sure you earth connections are good before you get batteries. You'll probably find it will start with one battery but if you get 2 use a 643 and a 644.
Which part of Normandy are you in as we are holidaying in Normandy later this year ?

Mike

Hi thanks for the reply, I think they are probably parallel as one connects to the other and then on to the starter etc, no that I doubt your knowledge but why 643 and 644 and not 633's. The 633's seem to have a higher output for the same money....... and I'm near St Lo in Normandy about 50mins from Caen and 1hr 30 from Cherbourg.

Thanks, I kind of thought that was the case but I didn't want to run the risk of frying anything. In all honesty it probably wont hurt to put new batteries on as the previous owner seemed to run it on a shoestring. While I'm talking about tractors, there seems to be some sort of air compressor thingy in front of the starter motor, are these for air braked trailers and how reliable/safe are they, I had a 4011 that had the (rusty) tank under the drivers seat and never fancied testing it. Any views on that....and Granville is about 30mins from me, we take our horses on the beach there which is huge, if you've never been before you wont be disappointed.
