Hi all, great site! First post for me.
I have a John Deere 2700 (Zetor 9540) with a broken engine for the second time in less than 5000 hrs.
The first time the engine failed was around 2500 hrs, we gave it to a truck mechanic who put in new sleeves, pistons and crank- cost over $10 000 AU.
Now it has failed again. We have taken on the work ourselves. The crank has been damaged beyond repair again, along with a conrod and the block also. The block needs repair around the thrust bearing, both the block and the thrust race mains cap. We have the block at the machinists, who have quoted $3000 AU to weld up and remachine the damaged area. However they cannot repair the mains cap.
It seems that I cannot purchase this part separately either.
I can purchase a complete block and caps for around the same money from Czech, but its a long wait for the sea freight.
Would anybody know where I might find a thrust mains cap?

Are all oil galleys open ?? and did they check the roundness tolerance on the bearing caps ?

At my previous employer we had to discard a 6BT because of a seized crank bearing that heated the block locally so that it warped. If it isnt running true, it will happen again. Unless you line bore the entire block, then a new shortblock is cheaper.

Not sure what happened during the first rebuild, it's possible there could have been a defect from the factory, eg faulty cap? Then overlooked during the first rebuild?
At any rate, if we repair the damaged block, it will be line bored as part of the cost quoted above.
It does appear that my friends in Czech Republic have now found a mains cap so hopefully we can progress with the rebuild.

There have been a few problems on earlier models with the oil pump relief valve on these engines, so make sure it is free.

I know of an Ursus 214 of the early 90s that damaged the bearings because the relief valve kept bleeding.... Didnt know it was common.

Thanks. There is wear in the relief valve/ oil pump housing. Replacing all of it except the impellor I think.
