I just bought a 9540 with 2600 hours on it. I don't have an operators manual and would like to find out a few things. Do these tractors have a preheater and if so how does it operate? How are these tractors to start in cold weather. Any tricks to help get them started?
Pre-heats on ignition key for 30 secs. You want a good battery though with plenty of starting amps. If you put hydraulic pump out of gear prior to cranking helps a bit.
The only complaint I have on my 8540 is its cold starting...and thats in England!
Turn the ignition on, you should get a yellow light come on top right on the dashboard. The light goes out after 10/15 seconds, it should start then if the glow plugs are okay. There are 4 glowplugs in the head, a control box above the battery and a fuse link near the control box. They will not start from cold without the glowplugs working correctly.
Just a thought, the early UR3's had a manual button on the dash for pre-heat and just one thermostart in the inlet manifold.
Thanks for the information. I also noticed a white push button on the column on the left side. I had wondered if it had anything to do with the preheater.
