Hello Folks (from Southland, New Zealand)

I'm looking at buying a used tractor of around 40-60 HP. A Zetor 5711 has come up. Its in rough condition, but is fairly priced I think. Its ideal in size weight and power for the work I have in mind.

About 25 years ago we farmed in Marlborough, NZ, and at that time ran two 5745's so I at least a bit familiar with these machines.

I'd appreciate any tips on what potential problems (specific to this model tractor) I should look out for on an older 5711. One I already know is the brakes, they need bled on one side, I think we had a specially modified socket to reach down into the recess on the final drive to do this - do I recall this correctly ??

Any other thoughts ?? If you'd like a look here is the link http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=189507167

I should add that parts (both new and from wreckers) are readily available here, for example the missing link from the hydraulic arm is $60NZ

Cheers - Foster

Not much going wrong with them. These are one of the most reliable Zetors ever. I do not recall any problems in particular of the 4712, 5718 and 6718 we had, except for underpowered brakes that needed a little maintenance every once in a while.
