I have a 1998 Zetor 3320. What size battery is recommended for this tractor? I do not have the original battery and believe that the one in the tractor is too small.
I had a 100Ah capacity battery but it had only 350A cold cranking ampere: Enough for a car with a 1.2 Kw starter. On my tractors i use 100Ah storage capacity, 800A cold cranking batteries. That gives the punch to start an engine on a cold morning
I have had great success with the Optima blue top round cell batterys, best (lowest) internal resistance of any battery on the market and 100% resistant to vibration and leakage.
retains 50% of full charge after 250 days of no use.
First one i had lasted 8 years of total abuse, (would have lasted longer had i not forgot it was in a car that liked to drain batterys..... found it 6 months later and it was still ok, but then i did it again and killed it
and the one i have now is 6 years old and still starts my crappy old Ford 4000 Diesel tractor in winter with no heaters, and 30-60 secconds grinding over the startor that would kill a lesser battory.
Same size at an 11 plate case but puts out a whopping 900CCA at 0Deg.F or 1000CCA at 0Deg.C
only problem is if you do drain them flat they will fry the alternator due to low internal resistance, ..... so do use a current regulated charger if you flatten it too much.
I use an N150 size battery in my 7245, these fit perfectly in the battery box, and is held down by the original fittings in the box. If you put anything smaller in, it won't be held down, and you'll run the risk of it shorting out or exploding in rough going.
The battery I have has 1100 CCA, with heaps of reserve.
