Brake failure Model 5211

I've about had it with this brake problem... Is there something that can be done to ensure that the brakes won't fail at some point?
I've reworked the master cylinder (maybe should have bought new...) and bled the brakes until there's no air - but air gets back in again!!! ??? Is it the junky master cylinder? Sometimes the pedals just lock up solid - can't depress them any further like there's something wedging them.

What's the best, most effective fix?

Hi BigOrn,

The Zetor brake cylinders are not known for their quality of manufacture. However, replacements of better quality than the factory fitted originals are available.

What I did on my Crystal was to fit mechanical brakes i.e. solid connecting roads from brakes pedal to brake lever. Takes about 1/2 day to do and it works.

Thanks, Tom, I didn't think of that.

I think I'm going to tear it down and see if I can retrofit it in that manner.

Hi,

I had the same problem on my 5011. I did the same thing and used the OEM cylinders. My only problem is that my pedal still travels almost to the floor and I have to re-adjust often. But that was due to my poor workmanship . The best place for replacement parts in the US is Ridgeway Interprises. They are awesome. www.zetorusa.com

No - I took out the hydraulic brake cylinders and pipes completely and installed rods to connect the brake pedal to the brake levers on the back axle to give purely mechanical brakes.

Zetor first aquired brake cylinders from PAL - which were crap. Then they had them produced at a Danish company for a short while- also not statisfying. Nowadays Fragokov of Slovakia makes all the OEM brake cylinders, of good quality. New ones from the dealer, are Fragokov ones as installed on new tractors.

The problem I found is that when they fail it is usually down to water in the brake fluid from the externally mounted reservoir.By then it is too late to save the cylinders.I put the cap off an aerosol spray can over the top of my reservoir cap and it keeps the water out.I did the same with the slave cylinders on my Crystal using screw caps from a bottle of gear oil as they were getting covered in slurry and then hosed off repeatedly.
also when bleeding the brakes only open the bleed valves the tiniest amount to make them work as the master cylinders do not shift much fluid and you never will get all the air out.
