Buttress caps

How many hours does it typically take for the original buttress caps on a Zetor 3340 to go bad?

I just bought the thing with 600 hours on it. I'm also wondering if i should try slamming on the brakes a few times, before I remove the clutch inspection plate.
 
I think the buttress caps are fine. I'd like to upload a picture, but I'm not sure how to do that here.
