question Buying Advice - Zetor 5211 or Zetor 6211

Hello everyone, I'm planning on buying a Zetor 5211 or maybe a Zetor 6211 depending on what comes up locally and I was wondering if there is anything I should look for on these tractors to decide whether I am looking at a good one or a bad one?

I don't need anything too fancy, just something that given my present circumstances would be cheap and easy to fix when it goes wrong, as all machines do sooner or later. I would really welcome any advice on the matter as I have never owned a Zetor before and I want to make sure that I don't overlook any issues that I really should spot before handing over any money.

Some on these series were right lemons but if one was not given hard work could be fine, some things we had go wrong like the clutch pistons, electrical problems, air in the diesel, gearbox stick being stuck in reverse other than these they are a grand little tractor.



only other thing they don't make it easy to change from pick up hitch to drawbar, so try get one with a dromone hitch or be sure you get the extra coupling that goes on to pick up hitch with drawbar end, with the tractor.
 
Thanks for that. The last thing I need right now is a lemon. Was the series generally poor or was it just a few individual tractors? Constant repairs no matter how easy or cheap the parts would soon become irritating.

I think they were a good series, there is plenty on them still for sale in Ireland anyway, We had 7245 gave all the problems I mentioned already but we put that tractor into heavy maybe over its capability pushing up silage and pulling a mower. But we also had a 7745 and 7340 and they didn`t give the same problems.

There is no problems to get parts still for them as the same parts were on a few different series of Zetor. Most important thing with all tractors is to start and work them nearly everyday, this keeps the battery and diesel primed up and then they go better.

 
5211 with fine mazed radiator will overheat in heavy work, i replaced it with a coarse one of a 5718 and upped it to 60+ hp. At least, we could not feel a difference with a 6718 pulling the same 10m3 tanker with disk injector.

Clutch cylinders was a bad series supplied by PAL. The later ones, as well as spares, are supplied by Fragokov and faultless.

They do tend to use oil when they never work. Ours used a liter of oil a day, a couple of hundred hours at 60hp later it didnt need topping up between oil changes. The bores are too wear resistant to break in when just idling.
 
Thanks Renze. Are you saying that upping the power cures the glazed bore problem? If it needs regular hard work instead to keep the engine from burning oil then that might be a problem. Any tractor I buy will mostly get only light use with a hydraulic transport link box on the back, a rear loader, a grader and sometimes taking a load from the quarry with a tipping trailer. It will be parked up more often than not as I mainly want it to do the lifting and carrying for me as I work on my home.

Overall, would you recommend them i.e. 5211, 6211 and 7211 or should I look for something else?

Once the rings are well seated, it does light work without excessive oil consumption. But putting it in front of a slurry mixer twice a year, helps any make of diesel, to blow off soot buildup due to low exhaust gas temperature.
 

This is what I was saying too, keeping the tractor used often is better for it than anything else but if your pulling a load of stone from the quarry would help blow off soot.
a 7211 is a good size tractor and easy to get your hands on one.

diy farmer, you don't know of any about for sale, preferably in the north east or thereabouts of the country? There doesn't seem to be so many for sale any more and here in the north, they're becoming a rare sight. I've been looking for a while and the prices go from around 3250 up to crazy money in my opinion. In your opinion, how much should I reasonably expect to pick something decent up for? I should add that I'm on a budget and I'm pretty much thinking of 80s or maybe early 90s machines.

Hopefully you are able to get something that suits, be sure whatever you get that it is one that spare parts are readily available and your not left like anyone that bought a DFH tractor.
