Changing tires sizes

I have a 3340 and have 13.9 x 28 on back and 9.5 x 24 on front. I would like to go to 16.9 x 28 on back and keep the fron the same.

According to my owners manual this is a standard tire combination. Do I have worry about any linkage issues in final drive , will I be throwing anyting out of whack?

If your rims will take the extra 3 inches of width and there is clearance on the mudguard (fender) your away in a hack! As it is the width that's changing and not the diameter, you are not changing any final drive ratios.

I fitted oversize tyres (wider) on a CASE 5140 and didn't suffer any problems.

According to the old tractor guy (he is ancient and has been ancient for decades) putting on 16.9x28 will add better than 3 inches to the height. I don't want higher I want wider.

also, I do have 14.9 x 28 on back now, not 13.9 (oops).

They will clear fenders just fine, I don't have wrap around fenders.

If you want wider not higher, you need to go into a European dimension, with an aspect ratio of 70 or 65
(when not mentioned, like 14.9-28 the aspect ratio is 80%)

A 14.9-28 equals the new designation 380/85-28 and has a little more rolling circumference as a 420/70 R28 and a little less than a 540/65 R28 tire, which are 40 and 60 mm wider.

The factory combinations of 16.8-28 tires with your front tires will probably have different 4wd gears under the tractor: There are two variants of the output shaft gear on the transmission, one with 40 teeth and one with 41 teeth.
