Clutch / Gear problem

Hi.

I have a 1979 Zetor 5911, which has been going very well since I restored it a short while ago. This evening it developed a problem. It seems to go okay in low range gears, but when I shift the gear selector lever to road speed, it goes into gear, but the tractor does not move, like the clutch is slipping. Have tried repeatedly to move the speed selector gear from low speed to road speed to try and get it going at road speed, but no luck. Please advise.

It seems that the C-span stift that mounts the high/low gear range selector on it's shaft, has broken. You can replace it by anything that works, e.g. a piece of a 6" wood nail. ;)

Hi.
Thanks for the advice.
Had a good look and there is a nail through the gear lever and the shaft and the shaft is turning with the lever. The problem seems to be that the shaft shifts between neutral and low speed, but will not rotate through to road speed. There is something stoping it from rotating through to the correct position. Could someone please offer further advice.

Hi Peter,

Try to shift from neutral to high without pressing main clutch while motor is running. Be carefull !!!! Only try this !
If you will hear no sound from wheels maybe the fork shifting low/high speed had moved and can not shift to high.

I am not sure if you will see that when you remove the top cover of gearbox, it is at the end of gearbox, but someone will write about that.

If fork is screwed correctly, I think you have wear out clutch for shifthing high speed.

Have you any problems with this before ?

Write more about that, mainly what you hear while shifting.

Greets, Miro

Hi Miro.

Thank you for all your advice. Succeeded, after following your directions, in changing from low to high range. But I think the clutch is worn because when you put it in gear, the tractor rolls, but won't accelerate or go up an incline or overcome any obsticle in its path. Will have to split the tractor and look at the clutch.

Thank you to all the Zetor drivers out there, the information you place on this website is very helpful.

Try adjusting the clutch first. It is a complicated matter to get the main clutch and the pto clutch both adjusted because of all the fiddling about with the clevices and threaded rods underneath the tractor. If you can get the main clutch adjusted so that there is about an inch of freeplay at the pedal you should be near enough to see if it is working properly.

Hi.

Thank you to everyone who supplied advise.
The clutch/ gear problem has been resolved by using a little of each persons advice.

Thanks for a great forum.
