Clutch smells like it is getting hot

I have a 3 yr old Zetor 8441 with 1067 hrs that I use to bale hay. Recently I have noticed a strong smell like the clutch is burning when baling. The only thing that has changed is that the hay is not as dry as I would like and seems to be working the tractor and the baler harder than usual, and the ground is sort of spongy adding to the equation. The smell seems to be directly under the drivers seat and I have noticed that the baler does not seem to be turning as fast as normal, even at the same tractor rpm. I have tried using other non-pto implements and the smell is not as bad, but still seems to be there. I have not noticed the main clutch slipping or anything different with that part of the tractor's operation. I am thinking it may be the PTO clutch. Any thoughts?

you say baler doenst seem to be turning fast enough. i am wondering if the pto clutch pack is at fault. remove teh backend dipstick and smell the oil does it smell burnt?

start with that if not come back to us.

I dont think the 8441 had a wet clutch... is it a super series with the 2 stage powershift 16/16 transmission ? If not, its a dry clutch like earlier series. I think these series have them air operated. if you crawl under it you could check if something's sticking to the lever or air cylinder...

It must be the dry clutch type, as there is no dipstick and the owner's manual does not mention it. I have crawled all under it looking for a clue (something stuck, leaking, etc.) and can't find anything obvious. How difficult/expensive is it to change out the pto clutch, since that seems to be the first place to start? Thanks for your help !

Open station or cab use a lever like earlier models, check thru cover on left side make sure larger throwout bearing does not contact fingers when PTO is engaged (lever down) I believe a 1/8" clearnecne is required. As clutch disc wears fingers move closer to throwout bearing. You shouldbe able to adjust at the bottom of cable.
