disengaging/engaging of 4wd for a 6745

hi all,i have a 6745...1977,it is in 4wd,i have not long freed up the lever/handle on the left,the lever under the seat is in the 540 position/1000 is on the otherside could someone please advise as to the correct procedure for disengaging/engaging 4wd.:sneaky:
