Hi all, I started trying to figure out the electrical challenges on my 7245 on the weekend - I knew it wouldn't be fun on account of when I got the tractor there was a birds nest behind the dash

I figured out several things but would welcome some advice on some others:

1) Hour meter not working but rev counter is - I'm guessing it's an internal problem and needs a new unit - am I right?

2) Turn signals come on but do not flash in either direction - probably a new flasher switch

3) Battery and fuel guages permanently dead - wires look OK, so probably new units - any other possible causes?

4) Temperature guage moves but never gets above 40 degrees, just moves from there to the left stop constantly - another new guage?

5) The rear work lights don't work, I didn't have enough time to trace the wires so probably that.

Other than that everything electrical works fine :D

>>> The same cable drives both so your diagnosis sounds right.

2) Turn signals come on but do not flash in either direction - probably a new flasher switch
>>> I would hazard a guess that this is an earthing problem.

>>> You need to testing electrical continuity in the wires from the gauges back to their source with the tractor battery removed. This will allow you to identify if the problem is with the signal end or in the wiring .

Battery gauge - appply +12V and GND directly to it and see what happens. Has to be disconnected from exisitng wiring to do this.

Fuel gauge - you need to setup your multimeter for resistance. Bassically the gauge should offer a variable resisitance between fully and empty. If its possible to remove the fuel gauge, do that and the resistance should change as the float moves. Otherwise, you'll have to remove some fuel and see what the impact is.

4) Temperature guage moves but never gets above 40 degrees, just moves from there to the left stop constantly - another new guage?
>>> Could be the temp sender unit is faulty.

5) The rear work lights don't work, I didn't have enough time to trace the wires so probably that.
