Hi, now i have got my 7245 starting and steering ok with your help ,:D i went topping for one hour last week all went well, apart from sticking 4wd as it would not disengage>:) , posibly due to the six years parked in the barn, anyway today i came up the road with 6ft topper on and loader c/w bucket she died right down on quite a steep hill in top gear, where she went ok last week unladen, when i got to the field although nearly dark, i noticed oil had come out of the engine breather, what would cause this ?????? only thing i can think is that i had the arms right up and still pumping when traveling down the road or the oil filter has colapsed after six years in the barn? , any advice would be great ,thanks martin

Sticking piston rings.
Change the oil, and pour in a can of slick 50.
Then make your tractor work real hard for a day.

Our 5245 had the same problem when we bought it, it threw lots of oil via the breather. It used to be from an old man who never worked it. We traded our old 85 hp for this newer 50 hp so its gotta work. Now it doesnt use oil at all and i dont have to top up between oil changes.

Thanks renze , ive just come in after 6 hours mole ploughing it certainaly worked hard but i didnt change the oil of put in slick 50 as i only just got the message,:( would it work if i just put in slick 50 for general work now its worked hard ?, how long does the slick 50 stay in for ? ,this tractor also belonged to an old guy that never worked it hard ,well nor did he with only 3,000 hrs in 15 years;) .

Yes, Slick50 can stay in there for a long time and keep working overtime.

So my assumption was right. keep using it hard and the piston rings will set. Just make sure you keep oil and water in it, and dont run it above 110C

Thanks renze , how much slick 50 do you put in a 7245 ? , would 750 ml be enough.

750ml!!!! you need to fill the engine id would use hd40 i used that in a tractor when she had bad rings and seals worked a treat!!

Hi matt , if i was to fill the engine it would cost me 100.00 ,and shurley it would do it no good to work it hard ?, are you not supposed to add slick 50 to the oil and then work it hard, what is hd40? .
thanks martin

100 to fill your engine with oil??? thats mad! there is nothing wrong with working an enigine hard its hardly goin to go bang unless there is something serious wrong! hd40 or otherwise known as SAE40 is a heavy duty oil designed for the older or harder working engine and has less chemicals than thinner grade. ican buy this in a 20litre can for 30 +vat and a spin on filter for about 8. i have a tractor which use to breathe and put hd40 oil in it sorted her from breathing! i stuck her on the jones baler for a day and she worked at 1900 rpm for the day and sorted herself out!

dont be scared to work your tractor its fine!

Hi matt , wrong end and stick comes to mind here, renze said change the oil and pour in a can of slick 50, i said how much slick 50 ,is 750 ml enough for a 7245 ??,you said 750 ml you need to fill the engine !!!!!!!!! , i think slick 50 is a adative not oil ,hense filling it would cost me lots of money, if anyone knows how much slick 50 to add to the oil it would be great,
thanks martin

oh i get you sorry for the confusion martin;) ive never herd of slick 50??? ill have a look around for you.

matt

slick 50, BAR's or anything.
There are several kinds of it and they all work somehow.
Its an additive and a small bottle of 10 Euro, is enough.
Then use premium 15w/40 oil, no junk from the "action" or whatever surplus discount store you might have in the country you live in.
