I have a new and seems to be increasing problem with our pony club 5245. This I notice especially obvious when on the road going up a hill. The transmission seems to 'hiccup'. I mean there is a very quick slippage somewhere but then immediately takes up again and goes fine for 30-40 secs. Seems mainly to be doing it on an incline, I don't notice it when under load of a slasher going level even if it's under a fair bit of load. Would really like to get some ideas please on what it could be.

Thanks
Michael

I welded a steel shelter for the tractor in the shape of a scale version of the great pyramid of Cheops. I parked the tractor under it and all of the problems have now stopped, the clutch is good, the transmission is good and the oil levels have filled to the full level, I haven't even needed to put diesel in it for days!

need more info ...but sounds like the clutch starting to slip ...does it only do it in high gears when on the road or in all gears ???

Hi Gav, thanks for getting back to me. I hadn't thought of the clutch because it will still stall the tractor and the fault is a very quick off and on of power, but I thought (most llikely mistakenly!) that a clutch slip would take up a bit more gradually. You might be right. I will try it on the hil on the road in 1st and 2nd and reverse. Does it is 3rd and 4th. 5th I don't know. The clutch is still not disengaging completely as the gears still grind on changing.

Cheers

if its grinding when you change gear could be a fluid problem ...is the pedal soft or when you press it does it go down a long way before any pressure builds up ..could be the linkage that goes from the slave cyln to the bell houseing getting seized that would make it grind and slip from not releasing the trust bearing or the main shaft in the bell housing could be dry and needs oiling .....get some one to press it while you lay under it and see whats moving if its moving the clevais pin about 1nch and a half and returning then it ok ...take plate off the side off the foot well and the one off the bell housing 2 10mm bolts and remove so you can see into the release bearings ..press the pedal and see how far the middle bearing moves ..if it stuck well out the clutch is goosed ....as is the fingers ..they need to have atleast 4mm left on them ..where they touch the bearing ..you can back off the clutch plate a bit to keep you going but only for a temp fix ....get 2 17mm spanners and slacken the lock nuts on the fingers on only the main clutch and back off the nuts so it moves the trust bearing back about 3-4 mm do the other 2 arms to match rotate the fly wheel buy useing a bar and adjust by looking with a torch and watch for the finger to just touch the bearing then lock off the nuts it'll keep you going for a small time till you get it sorted ..

Clutch shaft i quess. Splines are worn off, and it jump over sometimes. Put heavy loaded trailer behind it and you see soon if its clutch shaft. This cause gear connecting problem too.

Thanks Guys I will do the tests you recommend and report back.

Cheers
Michael
