I have a recently bought 5211 I've used about 10 hours. It seems to run out of fuel unless the tank is near full. I suspected a clogged fuel filter, so I changed it. The old one was quite clean. The owner's manual was not much help on how to purge the air. I found a bleed screw on a banjo bolt going into the injector pump, so I opened it up and used the manual pump until I got only fuel coming out. Everything seemed OK, but the tractor wouldn't start. I got it started on starter fluid, but it would not continue running. So I ran it on starter fluid for about ten minutes, a little spurt at a time, hoping it would purge its self. No luck. Can someone tell me how to purge the fuel system? What is likely to be my "running out of fuel" problem? Bad lift pump?

This smells like broken lift pump all the way. but i will urge you to check all hoses and clamps to see if they are loose and letting air into the system. i had a similar problem with my 7745. that was a broken pipe in the fuel tank though. you could check to see if your tank has replacable fuel pipes. if it does it will luck like a round galvanised lid bolted on top of your tank with the fuel hoses coming in and out of it. if its not there is only two pipes coming out with the hoses on. also to check if the problem is in the hoses or the tank. Also check if the clear glass filter is clogged. Find yourself a plastic cannister about 5 liters. fill it with dieselfuel run the hoses through that instead of the tank but you must remember to put both return and suction in the can. if it runs good then the problem is in your tank and or hoses. if it doesent run its the lift pump. to bleed the system just loosen the bolt on top of the fuel filter i believe it to be located just on top of them in the middle. just prime the hand pump until clean dieselfuel comes out and tighten the nut. then try to run it.Also dont use starterfluid its not good for the engine Hope this will help you:)
