I need a confirmation here (no, I'm not Catholic.) When trying to start my 4340 using the key, I see the lamps on the dash dim a little, but nothing happens at the starter. I can start the tractor by shorting across the positive connections on the starter and the soelenoid.
This does indicate that only the soelenoid is bad and needs replacing, correct?
Thanks, and Merry Christmas!
If you can jump across positive posts, the starter is ok. Check all the wire connections for corrosion first. if all is ok then you need a new solenoid.
I don't know which connections you are shorting across but it should be the small spade connection and the top terminal on the solenoid. If this works the problem is not starter or solenoid. Hope this helps.
