Hi everyone, I have just brought a Zetor 12245 and would like a heads up as to the common faults with them. Just so i can keep an eye out for them. I already run a 6945 and loader which is bomb proof but needed some more horses for field work.
Any help would be much apreciated. :cheers Jack

i had a zts 8245&9245 both had trouble with their gearboxs slipping out of second &then third gear until i changed the box,i also saw another 12245 with the same trouble for sale &a 9211 that had a box out of 8111.fitted for sale.

the first of 8245,92,102,112,122,14245 tractors were badged as zetor in the early 90`s until 1994-95,after they became ZTS on their own, there was some old 12145 tractors build looked like standard ones but with ZTS badges for sale, from 1995 for a couple of years.

So they started production of the old serie again in the mid. 90`s?? With the old cab? Why??

thats a good question, the zts must had the stuff to build the 12145 tractors&zetor had moved on to start making the first forterra range, there was a market for a big six cylinder,&they must had the parts no point letting them going to waste.i went to the machinery show in the RDS in Dublin in 1994,ZETOR had a stand there with zetor forterras, zts 9245&a 12145 badged as zts all on the one stand for sale.

Yes its a common problem. Expensive because of labour cost involved. Better let the guys from the east have them, they have lower labour cost.

So ZTS, are they still simple, strong, and reliable work horses?...... Like Zetors.
The tractor is badged zetor with zts on the front grill.

I am after a tractor that will last, with no electrics and is fairly simple to work on after a nightmare with a New Holland TS.

(Lets go back to simple machines please. All very nice these electrics but costly and a headache when they go wrong.)

I brought it with slurrying tanking and ploughing in mind plus general field work.
With its 6 pot engine and big foot print i am hoping it will pull well.....

Jack:sneaky:

most trouble im told with the ZTS was gearbox and if it went wrong it was bad. i love the 12245 i would really like one, especially the square cab, duncan i think it is..

new hollands are nightmares, but if your looking for a 6 pot with plenty of poke and no major electric go for a mf399 or 4270 with the 12x12 shuttle.

You've bought it now, enjoy it and hope the predicted doom doesn't happen. The export market is pretty dead at present, so if you are concerned about the gearbox now is a good time to buy a spare one in the local breakers yard. My local scrap metal exporter has 3 8011 in yard at present and sold me whatever I wanted of them since scrap metal is what they are at present with no export market for that class.
Enjoy your big six.

if the gearbox on a zts start to act up,like the ones on the tractors i had,it was a simple solution to change the whole boxs.the replacments came out of 9111,they were 40km crash boxs, they were still a good tractor afterward&a nice compact cab compared to 12145.

If you have one, just make sure you dont yank it into gear. Let the synchro do its task and all will be fine. (unless you put hired operators on them that dont take your instructions when outta sight)

Thanks for the advice, time will tell about the G/box. From what you say its not the end of the world if it does start to play up.

When i'm driving the 6945 i always have a cheeky smile. It seems more of an adventure driving the older machines. So lets hope the 12245 is the same.

I Wouldn't mind getting hold of a 3011 in time, for pottering around. But thats for another day.

Many thanks

Jack

I have 8000hours driven ZTS 14245. No problems with gearbox. Just torque multiplicator brake band is changed. Now it will get its 3rd hydraulic pump, but we use lots of hydraulics. Clutch is rebuilt, then we had to change clutch shaft too because. Very strong tractor. Some drivers are complaining about syncros, but if you can drive old truck you can manage with these tractors.

Markku, do you use the 42litres hyd pump?
I have tried to find one with more flow, but its not possible at the time.

I think thats the whole problem: the UR2 synchro needs a second to do its job. Many drivers are impatient and yank the lever as if it was an old Ford 8210... Then the syncrhos start to play up.

My brother wants one, but several synchro ones we have looked at over the past years, jumped out of 2nd gear. About half of what has been available in the past 5 years (12145, 8211, 16211) were sold off because they jumped out of gear. Two of the above mentioned tractors were used for road transport only: the 16211 was used with 40t truck semitrailers with a dolly axle, to move onions to the market, and the 8211 was used to pull a hooklift of a construction waste collecting company. Both didnt have a regular driver, but were "company whores"

Per Olav, Im fighting with the same problem :( There is possible to fit another pump to side of gearbox, but havent seen any. Originally it has own oil tank, but you could easily modify it take oil from gearbox. Then you can joint these 2 flow to one 90l capacity for external hydraulics. Then it need big oil cooler too... :sneaky:

Renze, youre right. But most biggest problem is long heavy gearstick.... ??? Most drivers dont "feel" the position when syncros start working. They just crunch gear on with the big lever... With shorter and lighter gearstick it would be totally different. I have 2nd gear syncros too worn a bit. It still keep gear on, and is possible to change nicely if you can do it. I hope it last few years more....

when my 8245 started to slip out of second gear,i found that i only had to put my finger on the top of the stick to hold it in gear, but when it slipped out of third gear there wasn`t much i could do_Only thing i could do was change the box,i did all the work myself & the box cost 200 euro.
