Hi,

I've got a 3011 which has been running fine until last week. Now, steering has gone really stiff but only when turning left. Turning right is smooth, turning left is really tight and jumpy. Nothing obviously binding on the axles or steering arms, and equally stiff whether going from full right lock or central. Wheels also don't get to full lock when turning left.

Any thoughts or ideas gratefully received.

Thanks,

Phil

It sounds to me like you should take a look at the steering gear. Something may have broken off or there may be a bearing defect - you will have to open the steering gear to see it. But it's not a big deal with this tractor - I did the same thing with my 2011 Zetor not too long ago.

Is there oil in the steering gear?

My digger is like that, It steers lovely to the left but try turn right and you want strength like king kong. I jacked it up off the ground and the steering is lovely both ways, but as soon as it hits the ground, it's not lovely and will only steer when moving. I haven't done anything to it. left it so

I shall try to have a look this weekend.
What weekend? ;)

Is it obvious where to go??
To do work at steering gear box, some steps are to do:

Remove the steering wheel

On picture its a original Zetor tool I have, but it should be easy to made a similar own one.

Remove the steering ball left side

Original tool or a 20 Euro tool - both will work

Remove the dashboard and electrical installation

Remove the diesel tank

Then you can see and open it...

And if needed do some rework...

And after that its time to mount it back at its place...

And last but not least bevor mount back the tank, make a test with ...

The steering wheel can be a real pain in the bu*t to remove. It can be really stuck sometimes.
I don't have the original puller tool, so I used a standard 3-legged puller......well it finally got loose, but it didn't look nice afterwards :)
Ended up buying a new one.

Gateways are pretty small to keep turning round 270 degrees if I want to go in the other direction!

Looks like it's going to be fun ... and I'm being sarcastic!

My job for my digger for most of the summer is, loading and unloading and stacking round bales of silage. First in the field onto my trailer and then unload in the yard and stack beside my cattle shed. So I have planned out where I do the most of the driving to the left, and don't need to steer to the right rarely at all.
