Hi. We have a Zetor 4511. We had been topping paddocks for approx 5 hours on Friday, same on Saturday when tractor stalled. Couldnt restart as stuck in gear. Managed to get out of gear and restart but just crunches if we try and select gears when running. If we select low ratio and low gear whilst engine off then restart, tractor does move slowly. Clutch pedal has not lost pressure. First question, any ideas on what the issue could be? Second question, is it ok to finish the topping slowly by selecting with engine off then restarting. New to tractors so any help /advice greatly appreciated. Thanks for reading

If the tractor keeps moving when you press in the clutch pedal down to the last and the only way to stop is to kill the engine, sounds like there's a finger broken in the clutch and your looking at a splitting job.

Thanks so much. Would you consider it a job we could do ourselves or is an expert required? Were hands on with lawn tractors, renovating property but have never split a tractor!! Not afraid to to take it on if its suitable for enthusiasts amateurs :). Yes the filter help was great. Fuels replaced and oil cleaned and changed. It was going beautifully until the clutch issue! Thanks again for your help. Much appreciated.

Ah good stuff:)

Splitting a small tractor wouldn't be hard especially if you have rails to do so. The hard part is to put it back together if you don't have a drive shaft to line up the clutch discs. But if you do spilt it yourself, take off the entire clutch pressure plate and disc and bring to a garage to set it up for you, get the flywheel skimmed and put in new pilot and release bearings and you'll have a great job done.

Check first, when the tractor is going and moving what happens when press in the clutch pedal and press the brakes that you can't get the tractor to come to a halt, to be sure that it's a clutch problem like a finger broken.

As for working still, I think you'd be ok just remember you have no way to stop it so don't bump into anything.

Thanks. Were pretty sure that it doesnt stop when we put in clutch and press brake. Only way to stop is to turn off engine! The tractor is in France at the house we are renovating so we cant do anything until we go back again. The language barrier will also be fun!!!

Hi
Take off the small cower on left side of the bellhouse and turn engine over by hand to innspekt the fingers and the butrescaps they pivet on, it is most lickly a cap that is vorn trough. Both caps and fingers can be changet trou the opening though it is somwhat fideligh.

Were back in France and have done as suggested above. We have found a finger that is loose and see the spring is broken. Assume this is the cause? See photo. Were going to try and locate one here in France. How easy is it to replace the spring? Can we use the tractor with a spring missing? Havent tried as battery now gone flat!! Thanks so much for all your help so far.

Edit...how do I add a photo to a post please ??
