question Zetor 5211 won't move

Hey, guys!
It's been awhile - too much work going on and not enough time to play...
To the problem: My 5211 seems to want to quit on me now and then. The engine runs fine and so do the hydraulics, but it seems like I have the clutch depressed - it just won't move. It happens when I change from reverse to forward or vice versa. I can put it in any gear with the clutch out!!! Just like there is no clutch at all.

After a few mintues of trying to figure it out it suddenly goes in gear and I'm off again.

Any ideas?

Hmm.. I'm not sure what you mean, it doesn't take off when you release the clutch pedal, or the clutch pedal doesn't free the driveline so you cannot shift ??

The first may mean that your clutch plates are allmost done, teh second would mean that your master clutch cylinder is gone. Do you have to refill the clutch/brake oil often ??

I did find it almost dry when this happened, Renze. But I didn't think it was completely dry. But, it could have been.

Welcome back!

I appears to me that you may have a gear selection problem rather than a clutch problem. When she is misbehaving, does the gear selection feel "normal"? It could be wear in the selectors...

Could it be that the clutch release bearing is sticking?
Not sure if its the same on a 5211 but on the older versions theres a small red cap(like the top of a washing up liquid bottle) on an inspection plate beside the steering controls underneath the cab. This feeds along a tube to a sponge to keep the release bearing operating properly - may be worth a try with some oil.

Good to be back!

The Hi-Lo lever seems real easy to move back and forth, but not the transmission shifter.

It just seems like I have the clutch pedal depressed all the time when I don't - it's up to normal position.

This just happened out of the blue - no warning at all.

It's doing just fine now, but I would like to know whether this is a sign of forboding or not - you know.

Hi,
I had a problem so that once you've put it in gear and let your foot of the clutch nothing happens, this was due to the High / Low ratioas being in 'nothing' (they were previously jammed, we tried to free them and it seems we free'd them into 'neutral'). We took the relevent 'bolt' (I'm rather to say I don't know what they are) out and moved the gear with a screwdriver untill it locked, then we were away again. Is this anything similar?

Open the red cap and and pour in some universal/engine oil approx. 50ml to ensure that the resevoir sponge retains enough to last a while. Try using a syringe as it is difficult to get access to tilt an oil can. This will ensure that the release bearing springs back properly when the clutch is depressed.

I will do that first and see what happens - then I'll check that Hi/Lo shifting lever "bolt".

I added some fluid to that bearing last night and moved a few loads of dirt. So far so good.

How much fluid am I supposed to put down that little spout?
My manual is the worse I have ever seen!!!!

Also, how does that bearing work and how does it get the fluid once you pour it in?

Looking at an operators manual it states every 100 hours but that may be a bit excessive. If you are in dusty conditions then you may need to attend to it regularly.
How it works - when the clutch is operated the release bearing assembly slides forward along the transmission shaft and presses up against the release arms of the clutch. The release bearing is spring-loaded and returns normally after the clutch pedal is disengaged.Sometimes however if the shaft is not lubricated enough, the release assembly will stick at the forward position and not return along the shaft, even though the foot pedal returns back to its rest position.
By oiling the filler cap, a tub delivers the oil to a tiny sponge which acts a reservoir and releases the oil gradually around the bearing and shaft. When the tractor is running, the rotating shaft spreads the oil around itself so you may see a small amount dripping from the opening underneath the tractor afterwards.
I'd normally use a syringe full of approx 50 ml but you could use a little more.

but there's a shaft with two arms, that goes throught your bellhousing, the slave clutch cylinder is on the outside of the trans, pushing on an arm, which is connected via this shaft to another arm operating the clutch bearing.

...Maybe your clutch arm is bent, so that it sticks sometimes ?? or maybe a good greasing will help ??

I crawled in and around, under and atop everything that I could and found nothing bent or even loose under there.

I hope that fluid does the trick.
