Having a choice between a quad bike and a tractor, I recently bought a 5745; why not indulge in a few HP more than necessary? It reportedly had been standing for a year, but it started immediately. Tyres 80%, no smoke, no rattle, no leaks, gearbox and clutch working fine, so no deep-incision work necessary. The only rusted pieces to be replaced are the battery box, its twin on the left side and a small tool box on the left fender.
However, as it obviously had not been properly run and received maintenance for at least 20 of its now 41 years, I have spend a good three weeks a few hours every day with the slow process of getting numerous bolts and nuts, rusted into immobile permanence in the most inaccessible areas, out of my zealously re-constructive way by cutting, splitting or simply over-torsioning. That was half the disassembly work. The other half consisted of literally every joint, with or without grease nipple, also being completely immovable. Every single one had to be taken apart by means of a round driver and a big hammer. My right arm is in excellent condition now.
Well, apart from still ongoing efforts of pulling the steering wheel off its hub, all has been loosened and I can start making the new boxes and preparing the repainting. After that, the replacement of all rubbers and the assembly, comes the change of all oils as last.
I have a copy of the user's handbook and of the repair manual. However, the only info concerning lubricants is about the quantities, but not the qualities of the different oils. As I could not find this in the forum, question: Can anyone tell me which oils go where? I suppose engine = commercial diesel engine oil, gearbox and differentials = SAE80 or 90 gear oil, steering = hydraulic oil, but the rest?
Other question that the repair manual does not answer: The dome on the right front side of the engine, is that the centrifugal oil filter? If not, what is it and where is the filter? Of course I can find out by opening everything, but the innere Schweinehund every now and then takes over.
