Zetor 5748

Hi,
I have recently signed up.
I'm from Suffolk, England, i'm 14.
I have recently bought a Zetor 5748, for my first tractor as I like Eastern Bloc Tractors.
It has row-crop wheels on the rear. The back pans look like Zetor ones but look too "shallow", did Zetor make any pans like this? The "spokes" have "Berete" cast into them, Italian? It has the 4WD front axel with square pans and small hubs, I have onlty really seen ones with very big hubs on other tractors, is this usual?
It is a big rough at the minute!

Hello Chris! Welcome to the Zetorworld community!
I've had a look at your tractor, it will make a good restoration project and it looks like you have both cab doors unlike my 6718!
When Renze gets back from his vacation I am sure he will answer all your questions for you. The rear wheels do look unusual but the front wheels are more 'Zetor like'.
I'm often working in your part of the country, Westleton, Aldeburgh, Snape Maltings and around that area. Where are you located? Good luck with your 5745, you've definitely found the right web site!

Hi,
Yes, I have both doors I looked at a 5718 with a 6718 engine in, for 475 but it was rely rely rough and the engine sounded so, so we decided to look at another. We went and saw this one, for 250. it needed new cold plugs, we have done one so far, and sounded beautiful! So I got it for 300 delivered.
I live near Stowmarket.

It sounds like your 5748 has the light duty front axle on it if it doesn't have the large cast hubs.Nothing wrong with them just not as robust for loader work.The last 5245' s still used a lighter axle than the more powerful models.
Wish I could buy a 4wd Zetor for that price down here in Cornwall!!!!!

This axle on your tractor looks like axles on older model 5545: not a planetary final drive, just direct driven hubs.
Axles on 5245 are different than this one.

You are in right, That is older front axle that didnt have any planetary gears. 5245 has newer model axle. Personally I wouldnt mount a loader to tractor that has the older front axle.......

Hi,
Would this front axel be OK for loader work?
I would like ideally to get a loader for it and a rear mounted forklift.
The front tyres are: "8.5/8.-24".
I will respray the whole thing in the summer
I have a correction to make, the rowcrop struts have "Brevete", not Bevete cast into them, does anyone know anything about this company?
Have you looked in Tractor & Machinery magazine for Zetors, there are lots cheap

Chris,
This front axle is light duty. If you can find older, small loader, like on MF 135 for example, which one is not too long ahead, with 1m bucket or manure forks, it will not be a problem. Just small lift capacity 400-500 kg.
With this axle forget strong, industrial loaders.

I guess that should not be too bad then, I can use the front loader (when I get one!) for earth and the forklift for lifting.
What would be the best loader and where could I get one please?

Best loader for your tractor will be from Zetor tractors
Let be serious, you can find easiest on German machinery sites.

Yes, you probably could, only problem is getting it here
Also, what mountings would be needed?
Please could someone help me with the following:
1. A new black vinyl cover for the passenger seat cushion.
2. What type of engine oil to use
3. A wiring diagram .
4. Some different plastic light covers.
I would be very grateful if someone could help me with these "needs".

Hi Chris,

Your 5748 is in pretty good shape- it seems to have all its body panels intact.
Engine oil SAE 30 (summer) - SAE 10 (Winter) is recommended.

Original light lenses could prove difficult to come across. On this one I replaced them with universal lights and put them inside the back windows for protection.

I guess a middle ground lubricant would be fine for the UK where there aren't the same extremes in temperatures experienced elsewhere. I believe the ratings are based on viscosity levels - I will check the spec. on the last drum I used to give you a better idea.

We usually use 15W-40 multigrade mineral oil, during all seasons, and replace it within 150-200 hrs.

Use S.U.T.O (Super universal tractor oil) of any decent make in the engine and transmission.Super spec is suitable for turbo engines and is a bit thicker when you rub your fingers with it.Some of the cheap ordinary universal oils are too runny to be much use when everything is running hot. You will need to use proper gear oil of some sort in the front axle though.
