Zetor 5748

Chris,
What are the symtoms that leads you to think the cylinder heads are damaged???. Can you physically see cracks:eek:. If it is water leaking out from between the heads when the tractor is running, it maybe simply that one of the frost expansion plugs have popped out during a cold spell if there wasn't any anti-freeze in the cooling system. This can be repaired relatively easily and inexpensively:).

Hi,
Yes, I will know it well:(
Yes, you can physically see large cracks in the top, the metal has come away from some other by about 1/2"!:(
Yes, all of the plugs have popped out as well.
I am now in need to 2 cylinder heads!
Best Regards
Chris

Chris,
Sorry for your problem. :(
If you have so big problems with heads, look at engine block for cracks, too. It also have "ice" plugs around. I hope that block is ok. ;)
BTW, go to some Zetor repair shop, and maybe you'll find used heads cheap (free, I mean). :)

Hi,
Yes, we have checked the bores, my Dad says they're great, not worn at all. :D
Yes, I will try what you say.:D
Best Regards
Chris

Chris,
Congrats on your new project.. :)

The 5748 has the older 5501 engine from the 5511. All the 55, 56 (with cab) and 57 tractors have this engine, with a bit higher compression than the other 4 cyl. with the same bore x stroke.

I think the rear wheels are no Zetor ones at all, even the flange looks different.
That front axle was first adopted on the 5545, somewhere late 60's. The 6745/48 was the first with the heavy duty planetary axle.

The 5245 was usually sold with the lighter duty front axle, that shared the front hubs with the axle of the 4wd orchard model 5243. In some countries the 5245 also has the planetary axle, and in other countries the 6245 also had the light duty front axle.

For the 5245, the static load rating is 1800 kg, so the max load with front loader would be somewhere 2.5 times as high, (usually factor 2.5 when speed is reduced to below 10 km/h ??) about 4500 kg. That makes it possible to lift max. 1600 kg on the loader.

Hi Renze,
Yes, my grandad and uncle say the the flange section is off of a Sankey (as on Fordson Majors). This has been welded to a new hub to fit the zetor axels.
I am currently pauinting the wheels and we have ordered all the parts needed for it. This came to 300.
I hope to have it running in a few weeks :)
Is the 5748 a good tractor? anything to be wary of?
Best regards
Chris

Hi,
Please could someone tell me what colour the dash board / instrument surround should be?
should it be Gold-Beige or Polished metal?
Best Regards
Chris

In one of these pics you can see tha dash of our 6718.. i think it's gold..

No, the 5718 was a good trouble free tractor.. I have no experience with the front axle though... But for haymaking, it wont get that much of strain..

Hi,
I have added another picture took 2nd August:

Hi there,
I farm near Cardiff in Wales. I'm going to view a Zetor 5748 4wd with loader for sale and if it's good enough order I'd like to run it on our small holding. Are there any particular problems with this model I should look more closely at, other than doing all the normal checks on a used tractor?
