I recently got a Zetor 5945, and have fitted a loader to it. After fitting the loader, i noticed the power steering is very hard. I understand this is probably an adjustment. If all the adjustments are set correctly, how good is the power steering on these tractors?

What type of oil do you use ?

High viscosity oils have a bad effect on the powersteering dynamics, the slide valve in particular.

you need to fill it with ATF 2 oil such as GM Dexron oil. It's the red synthetic oil they use in automatic transmissions (Automatic Transmission Fluid, = ATF)
This made a world of difference when we had duals on the front of our 5245.

also, maybe your power steering pump is tired. it should do about 80 - 120 bar but it might be a b*tch to measure that without special tools.

I am thinking of slightly adjusting the pressure on my 5245 to get some better performance with the front loader. The safety valve opening pressure (just bleeding, not fully open) is 80 bar, but the power steering cylinder is designed for 135 bar max.

Just one more question to you: How big is your loader, and have you corrected the front tire pressure to the increased load ?
The front tire pressure makes a great difference in steering resistance.

I run them at 2.3 bar with a 1200 kg loader on it.

Hi Renze Thanks for replying
It has ATF in it.
The loader is Belcher make.It is specially made for the 5945.The loader is just a normal loader.
I haven't checked the tyre pressures ,I will do that tomorrow.
I have trouble turning the steering just with the weight of the empty bucket.
With just the subframes on it was working great, but I suppose the cracks only show when the pressure comes on.
I haven't got a manual yet so I do not know the internal mechanics of the sensor arrangements
How many adjustments can be made?

Hi
Have you jacked the front wheels up and checked the hub swivel bearings are okay ? They are non greasable but you can drill them and fit grease nipples if necessary. Don't overgrease as they will push the seals out.!!
