Zetor 6245 power assist steering Piston Problem

Hi, I have a Zetor 6245 Tractor. Its a great farm tractor. My steering piston began to leak. I took it off and had the piston rebuilt, new seals and o rings. When I put the piston back on the tractor, I started the tractor the wheels instantly pulled to the left. I cant turn the tractor to the right at all. I put the front end of the tractor up on jack stands. I can turn the tires to the right when the tractor is off. I Thought the system was air locked, or my relief valve decided to go on perminate vacation. But I have fluid flowing from both lines hydrolic lines going to the piston. I read that the piston needs to be adjusted. But I havent found on how to do it step by step. Can anyone help me. Thanks JM

Did you put the steering cylinder back on with exactly the same length adjustments of all the rods, as well as the ball joints on the cylinder itself ??

And you didnt change the pressure and return line by accident ? It sounds like the most logical cause.. ?

Just checked the manual but i dont see any adjustments. If it doesnt work i'd call the shop that rebuilt it for you and let them have a look.

I am not shure. When I took the piston off I didnt move the tractor. When I put the piston back on I did move the steering colum linkage to line it up to piston. I believe I also pushed the ram in aliitle bit. Its been very frustrating.

No I did not touch anything else on the tractor besides the hoses when I took it off. would the pressure return adjustment be in the piston itself?

If you had it re sealed by someone else, and it worked before they had it in their hands, i think bringing it back for warranty is the first thing to do before anything else...

Hi

Your problem is the position of the piston where it is screwed onto the rear block. As a starting point undo the clamp bolt and unscrew the piston to leave about 2mm between the rear of it and the block it is screwed onto. Then it's trial and error to find a central point where the steering feels the same both ways.

ixero with the above quote is quite correct make sure the clamp squeezing the chrome rod is loose then catch the chrome rod by hand and rotate. The magic number I believe was about 13 full rotation from start of thread to point where the steering would balance.

Ahh Mike, so the things i saw in the parts diagram were adjustment nuts instead of washers... It all makes sense to me now. I have a slightly sweating power steering cylinder too, but it will be the first time i have to open one, in 20 years of Zetor driving
