Zetor engine

Thanks Mike, Will it start again when it cools down or will it have to get ripped up?

we might be able to give a sensible answere if the op gave more details of what hes actually done,

how hot , how long.... these old iron engines will take some abuse before its terminal.... they arnt as fragile as a modern alloy car engine

Hi

Depending on how badly you siezed it will determine whether it will start. You may find it will run but blow out of the breather pipe or it may knock when you rev it up. You'll be lucky to get away without a re-build.

Mike

It started today thankfully. It turned it self off yesterday and there was a loud bang. gave a tow today and got it going. Its 1983 and need it to put in silage to 128 cattle so very dependant on it. wondering if there is any long term damage. thanks for response

If it has wet sleeves over-heating can apparently damage the o-rings and cause coolant to leak into the crankcase.
(not much fun to fix :( )
look out for coolant in the oil.

The valves will burn. If driven long enough the pistons will seize.

My brothers 2011 seized up on me while spreading manure. On the end of the asphalt road, where it turns into a dirt road, it seized. I checked the water and found nothing in it. After 5 minutes of cooling it started again. i let it idle while filling small amounts of water from a ditch, starting with just some splashes, so i wouldnt crack the heads due to sudden cooling. Topped it up and got back to work. The engine did not seem to have suffered any damage from it, however it already had 40 years of wear on it.
