3320 How to start

Helping a neighbor with a new to him 3320.

It has the key switch requiring the key to be inserted and pushed down in the switch socket...no twisting, just pushing it in.....assumed, not sure if this is correct. Then the separate push button starting switch is depressed and the starter rolls the engine.

Questions:

1. Should the fuel line pressurizing pump be used any time the tractor has been sitting for ??? long?
2. Can you feel resistance to pumping as the line fills and pressure increases?
3. How much pressure should you feel when it's time to stop pumping?
4. Are there any starting aids on the 3320 like glow plugs or a "Thermostart" device that slobbers diesel fuel over a hot coil and drops burning embers of fuel into the intake manifold?

Yes you will need to hand prime the fuel system if the tractor has set for any amount of time, you can just keep pumping it till you hear fuel bubble back in the tank (there's a relief valve on it so you will never over pressure the system)
some very late model 3320's may have a thermostart heater on them but most do not, if the temps are below 20f you will need the tractor block heater plugged in as they become very hard to start at that point.

You shouldn't need to have to pump the diesel to start the engine every time, only it helps if it's been idle for a long time and the diesel has run back into the tank. But if this becomes a regular problem it is possible you need to fit a non return valve on the line.
