I've a very old and very reliable 5545 that I've been mucking out with using a rear scraper. Been going backwards and forwards just fine, although there is a 4 inch lip that it has to go up and down to clear the muck. I've left the tractor overnight and its stuck in reverse! I didn't notice anything untoward yesterday, unless it was all the to-ing and fro-ing across this lip. The gear stick will move and feels like its selecting, but when it does select, nothing happens (movement wise) and the the gear doesn't engage, but just stalls the engine. In neutral, I get reverse.
I've taken off the panel around the gear stick and am looking at the metal housing etc and don't want to go taking off things I don't need to (and that look like they haven't been touched in years!) equally, I need to repair it.
I need help in knowing what I need to take off on this assembly to get at the selector pins and see if that is the problem (done some reading on here!).
My 6245 did the same thing, I had to take the plate off the top of the tranny and slide the selectors back in line. If i remember correctly the far right selector had moved down, towards the seat. I pushed it back until all selectors were lined up and then reinstalled shifter plate. This happened when i was in 4th or fifth gear and went through a ditch, push in clutch to down shift and everything stuck. Hope this helps,
If I take the horizontal plate off the tranny, will the gearstick section just stay as one piece? I've already taken off the dashboard panel - was that necessary? Anything else thats blindingly obvious that I should take off before I remove the plate? I don't mind the blindingly obvious being pointed out !!!
Or should I just ask the sheep to help......they keep coming over to inspect my lack of progress.....
If it has the same tranny as mine just unbolt the 4 bolts that have the horizontal plate on and lift off. That will expose the selectors . Align all selectors so that there is a straifgt grove in the center, this will put tranny in nuetral. Replace shifter plate back on tighten bolts and check that tranny shifts properly.
As Grego said. just undo the 4 bolts that hold the gearstick in and lift the stick out of the hole in the gearbox , then line up the slots and replace, making sure the ends of the gearstick are in the selector slots. Its a common problem and shouldnt take more than 20 mins to fix. you can make a "gate" out of 16g plate and bolt under the pedestal if it becomes a recurring problem.

Just to make it a little easier for you. There is no need to take the gear lever out. Just remove the 2nd from the right selector lock (there is a row of 5 with a 17mm head ). You will be able to see the selector rod down the hole. Just flick it forwards about 10mm and you're back in action.
There is a Zetor factory mod kit available to stop this happening again.
I just want to clarify:
I've got a large horizontal plate over the tranny and from it I have something that looks a bit like an inverted cone sticking up vertically with the gear stick at the end.
Is is the horizontal plate I'm lifting off?
or am I trying to take off the inverted cone from the horizontal plate.
Went out to mine to check for the 5 bolts ixer was mentioning, I could not find them on a quick check, However it is real simple too fix. Remove the four bolts holding the "cone " which holds the shifter lever, you do not have to take shifter off of the cone, Just trust me on that one, (30 minutes to get it back in while in the field cuuting hay). Lift straight up and realign sliders reassemble. Be careful removing plate and you will not have to replace gasket, just rtv it.
If that doesnt work let the sheep have a go at it!
