I just purchased a 1992 5211 with only 800 hrs for only 1200 us $, and have used it all summer. However, I was mowing my pastures last weekend and noticed that when the bushhog is lifted up to travel between fields the lift will jerk up and drift off and jerk up and so on and so on.... What would cause this??

That's internal leakage of the main lift cylinder under the seat, insid the housing. It will drop and the position system will raise it again. my 5245 did that too untill we replaced the cylinder seals.

How much trouble is it to change??? Should I purchase a shop manual for this job or should I be able to figure it out as I go??

Thanks,

you should probaly get a shopmanual, althoug they are very general they atleast have the pictures to help you. just remember to be extremly carfule with what you put your spanner on, easy to ruin the system

Be careful when lifting the lift cover, because there are a bunch of levers sticking out underneath. Dont bend them. i recommend putting a pipe between the fenders, and put a lifting device under one end. then attach rope to middle of the lifting cover, so you can gently lift it up using the lifting device, without risking to hook the mechanism on the transmission sidewall.

It's quite easy to do, and once you are in there, you can just release 2 bolts, swing the cylinder back and take the piston out. very easy.

Thanks for the help ... I have found a place to order a manule and should have it in a couple of weeks.

In the mean time, How do I check the Hydr. fluid level and where do add more at?

What type of Hydr. oil should I use??
