I recently purchased a 1989 Zetor 5245 with 1700 hours.
I'm very happy with the tractor, but the PTO lever (hydraulic only/PTO & hydraulic, N, PTO only) will not engage the PTO & hydraulic position with the tractor running. It grinds horribly. However, it will engage with some convincing with the engine not running.
I can shift from hydraulic & pto back to hydraulic only with the engine running, however.
I agree with the previous post, it seems that the PTO clutch is not disengaging properly.
The correct setting is 4mm between the thrust bearing and the clutch fingers. But... its not possible to see this clearly on tractors with a cab, so adjust the lever, with the adjuster on the cable, so that it has around 50mm play at the end of the lever.
You do know that the PTO lever is air assisted if the compressor is working and that the foot clutch pedal will then operate the PTO clutch when its fully down ?
Thank you. I thought the PTO handle was simply to temporarily stop the PTO. I didn't realize that I should use it before attempting to activate the PTO.
